Amazing homestay with super affordable price. The cottages are great. Theres no TV and air conditioning (u wont need em). The toilets are clean. This is the resort u need

PADANG MOTORBIKE BECAK TOUR

Saturday, 30 December 2023 by Handra

Minang people are definitely friendly people, very rarely in bad moods nor with bad intentions, youngsters frequently approach foreigners in a charming and funny way, sometimes even forcing themselves to overcome their modesty. Padang is one of the safest city in Indonesia.

Although the population of West Sumatra is diverse, the main ethnic group is the Minangkabau people (buffalo in local dialect), well known over Indonesia for its matrilineal system and its uniquely buffalo–like roof architecture. They speak their own dialect of the Indonesian language known as Minang.

Islam is the predominant religion throughout the Province and Catholic and Buddhist minorities are well integrated; churches and temples stand next to the numerous Mosques in an open–minded atmosphere. The bustling and noisy historical centre of the city extends from the old harbour and merges old buildings from the Dutch colonial era with Chinese influences; it suffered sever damages during the 2009 earthquake.

The Padang spicy cuisine is famous all over Indonesia. In no time the waiter will fill the whole table with plates, containing kari – chicken and fish prepared in coconut curry, Rendang (meat in coconut gravy) and Dendeng Balado, thin slices of dried and fried beef served with red & green (!) chilies.

Bukittinggi – Bukittinggi (Indonesian for “high hill”) is one of the larger cities in West Sumatra, Indonesia, with a population of over 91,000 people and an area of 25.24 km². It is situated in the Minangkabau highlands, 90 km by road from the West Sumatran capital city of Padang. It is located at 0°18′20″S 100°22′9″E / 0.30556°S 100.36917°E / -0.30556; 100.36917, near the volcanoes Mount Singgalang (inactive) and Mount Marapi (still active). At 930 m above sea level, the city has a cool climate with temperatures between 16.1°-24.9°C.

It rains every day in Bukittinggi. However, these tend to be short and light showers that will not affect your activities. Wear proper shoes especially if you intend to hike the Jangjang Seribu.

A popular mountain tourist town with some interesting places like Sianok Canyon, Japanese Tunnel and Jam Gadang, and delicious fatty, hot and spicy food like Nasi Kapau.

Harau Valley is in West Sumatra in Indonesia. It is one of the most beautiful natural scenery in West Sumatra. Located on the road between Pekanbaru and Bukittinggi. It is an area of canyons and rock formations with forest and rice fields in between.

Lake Maninjau – Lake Maninjau is a large crater lake in West Sumatra, Indonesia with several villages bordering it. It is a great place to relax, experience local rural lifestyle and watch the sunsets. The lake also supports swimming, canning and fishing. The villages themselves are small and great for escaping the hectic pace of Indonesia. Unfortunately, as tourist numbers decreased drastically during the last decade, many locals turned to fish farming. The still growing number of fish farms is apparently more then the lake can handle, with the water quality decreasing from year to year. More tourists are turned away, hence more fish farms pop up and so on…a vicious circle. Still, if you don’t come for swimming, there are still many reasons to come here and support the local tourist infrastructure – while, if you care, at the same time contributing to the rising awareness about the ecological fiasco the lake is undergoing.

Lake Singkarak – A picturesque lake, the largest lake in West Sumatra.

TRIP TRADITIONAL HOUSE TOUR

It is the homeland of Minangkabau people, one of the largest ethnic group in Indonesia with its rich and beautiful culture and heritage. It is also home of many majestic natural scenery like mountains, canyons, valleys, lakes, beaches and national parks.

Solok and South Solok are on the Trans Sumatra Highway, 64 km from Padang and 76 km from Bukittinggi. The town has some fine examples of Minangkabau architecture with hornshaped roofs and outer walls of wood, completely carved and painted in briljant colours. 60 km from Solok are the twin lakes ( Danau Di Atas and Danau Di Bawah ), which are becoming popular as holiday resorts. Cool mountain air and beautiful landscapes, with impressive thea plantations as far as you can see, have made this spot extraordinary. One of the lakes, set only 1 km apart, is on a slightly higher elevation than the other. The spot offers an impressive panorama of the surrounding countryside and offers excellent opportunities for camping and hiking.

See
Village of Thousands Rumah Gadang. Located in nagari Koto Baru. Old village with many old beautiful rumah gadang side by side. There are many types of rumah gadang there based of different tribes of Minangkabau. It’s proposed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Rajo Balun Palace. Located in nagari Sungai Pagu. The palace of Alam Surambi Sungai Pagu. It’s a beautiful rumah gadang. The palace also contains some historical collections of the kingdom.
Taman Hutan Raya Bung Hatta is a botanical garden covering 70,000 ha, with a rare collection of flora and fauna, situated on the way to Solok, about 300-1,000 m above sea level. The cool mountain air and panoramic views make this area a popular resort for both young and old. Monkeys and other animals can be found here, and they are protected by the park garden. Transportation to Taman Hutan Raya Bung Hatta is easy as it lies on the highway to Solok.
Mount Talang. A green volcano with picturesque tea field scenery.
